Bassist Mohini Dey on link-up rumours with AR Rahman: He’s like a father to me

Bassist Mohini Dey finally broke her silence on the link-up rumours with legendary musician AR Rahman. She shared a video on Instagram denying the rumours and called him a father figure. Mohini stated that she worked with AR Rahman as his bassist for 8.5 years until she moved to the US five years ago. She has associated with many pop artists in the US over the years. Mohini also requested everyone to be kind as it’s their personal matter.
Mohini claimed that she finally had the time to address these rumours after the completion of her tour. In the video, she mentioned how Rahman is younger than her father and how she and Rahman’s daughters are of the same age.
Captioning the video, she wrote, “It is utterly unbelievable to see the amount of misinformation and baseless assumptions/claims against me & @arrahman. I honour my times as a kid working with @arrahman throughout my 8.5 years of working with him for his movies, tours, etc. Its disheartening to see that people have no respect, sympathy or empathy towards emotional matters like this. It saddens me to see people’s state of mind.It feels criminal that the media has vulgarised the two events (sic).”
Here’s her video:
She further continued, “@arrahman is a legend and he is just like father to me! I have many role models & father figures in life that have played vital roles in my career and upbringing. To name a few- My dad who taught me everything music (who I lost a year ago) and then @ranjitbarot1 who introduced me to the industry, @louizbanksofficial who shaped me & @arrahman who gave me the freedom to shine in his shows and his musical arrangements during recording sessions (sic).”
Mohini concluded her note by saying, “Media/Paps do not understand the affect it has on people’s minds and lives. Be sensitive. I dont owe anyone any explainations but also, I dont want this to brew and interupt my day so, Kindly stop with the false claims & Respect our privacy (sic).”
On November 19, AR Rahman and wife Saira Banu announced their decision to part ways after 29 years of marriage. Around the same time, Mohini Dey announced her divorce from husband, Mark Hartsuch. This led to rumours about her relationship with Rahman.
AR Rahman’s three children and ex-partner Saira Banu trashed the rumours and vouched for him. The composer also threatened to sue to the slanderes indulging in spreading misinformation.
